Daniel J. Hein, MD was born in Kansas. His undergraduate study was in Biology at Hutchinson Community College where he was on the Presidents Honor Role in 1983 and Dean’s List in 1984. He received an AA degree in biology in 1984 and completed his studies in Cellular Biology at the University of Kansas. He was on the Honor role at the University of Kansas in 1985 and received his BS in Cellular Biology in 1986. He Graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1990. Dr. Hein completed his three-year residency in Family Practice at the Smoky Hill Family Practice residency in 1993. During this time he co-authored a paper published in the American Family Physicians entitled, 'Ovarian Mucinous Cystadenoma: A Case Report' in 1992.

His other awards include Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges 1983-84, American Legion Auxiliary Medical Scholarship 1982, Order of Eastern Star Medical Scholarship 1985, Smoky Hill Residency/Ortho Best Medical Paper 1991-92, Burroughs Wellcome Family Practice resident Scholar 1991.

He has been active in the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians serving as residency representative to the AAFP 1991-1993, representative from the KAFP to the American Academy of Family Physicians New Physicians caucus 1996 serving as a reference committee member on the committee of Women, Minorities and New Physicians. He served as treasurer and trustee for the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.

Dr. Hein was in private practice in Smith Center Ks. 1993-97, urgent care for Preferred Medical Associates Minor Emergency Centers 1998-99, and worked as the staff physician for Boeing Wichita 1999-2005.

His other interests include computers, hunting, fishing, science fiction, and strategy games.
