J.E. Val Mejias, MD, FACC
Electrophysiology
Practice Location: Main Office
"Dr. Val" has a diverse background in medical practice, research and teaching. Originally from Santiago, Chile, he has researched and published a number of articles and abstracts on the subjects of arrhythmias and electrophysiology; knowledge extremely important to our practice. Electrophysiology is the sub-specialty of cardiology dealing with the electrical nature of the heart. While most heart disease is caused by plaque buildups in the arteries surrounding the heart, problems can also be caused by the way the heart's electrical system regulates its beat.
Dr. Val originally came to our group after serving seven years as an assistant professor of medicine at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. While there, he also was an attending physician at both the Veterans Administration Hospital and County Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology, and has been very active with the American Heart Association. Dr. Val has been recognized for his research capabilities and has performed a two-year study commissioned by the prestigious National institutes of Health. He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology, specializing in electrophysiology. He is the founder and medical director of the Electrophysiology Lab at Via Christi's St. Francis Campus.
